Leslie Nan (Starr) Johnson, age 67 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at her home in Yukon, Oklahoma. Leslie was born in Frederick, OK on January 1, 1952 to Foy L. and Julia B. (Dickerson) Starr. She was the first baby born that year in Tillman County, which was widely celebrated. Leslie grew up in Frederick and competed in sports, drama and choir as well as other civic clubs and organizations. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1970. On April 16, 1970, Leslie married the love of her life and best friend, Johnny Johnson. In 1972 they moved to Yukon where they built their lives together and raised their two children, Brian and Kelly. Leslie went to work for the United States Postal Service in 1985 as a rural mail carrier. Leslie truly enjoyed getting to know the people she delivered mail to and saw it as more than just a job. She was very organized and took great pride in a job well done. Her family liked to quiz her on where certain addresses or zip codes were located and she always got it right! After 33 years of dedicated service, Leslie retired from the post office to spend more time at home with her beloved family. Family truly was the most important thing to her. She was very proud of her children and she relished being a Nanny to her grandchildren. She loved to take her grandchildren shopping and made sure her babies always had fancy new shoes. She spent many hours traveling and watching them play at ballparks and football fields. She loved listening to music, was an avid reader and collected many books. She loved to travel and always loved to be near water, whether it was a beach, the lake or a pool. Leslie has left a void that can never be filled, but she has left a legacy of love and a life well lived.
Leslie is preceded in death by her father, Foy and mother, Julia. She is survived by her loving husband Johnny, her children, Brian Johnson and wife Brittany of New Orleans, LA. and Kelly Icenhower and husband Justin of Yukon, OK; grandson, Emory Icenhower; granddaughters, Anna Icenhower and Grace Martin. Brother, David Starr and wife Gina of Piedmont, OK; sister Pamela Gish and husband David of Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Leslie’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 4th, 2019 at Smith and Turner Mortuary at 201 E. Main Street, Yukon, OK 73099. The family would like to thank the nurses with Valir Hospice for their wonderful compassionate care.
